To My Daughter On Her 8th Birthday

This is also in a way your 1st birthday, because its the first one that we are allowed to celebrate now that we are no longer Jehovah’s Witnesses. I want you to know how proud I am of you. You are so smart and caring and sarcastic, its amazing to know you. But that is not why I’m proud of you. I’m proud of you because your my daughter. I need no other reason. No matter what happens in life or the decisions you make -even ones I disagree with -you will always be my daughter and I will always be there for you.

I know a lot things changed with our family this year and that can be confusing. Its been kinda crazy for me too. I want you to know, however, that everything I have done has been with you (and your siblings) in mind. I gave up a lot in my life this year, my mom and dad, my friends, the only world i’ve ever known, and while this has caused me great pain, I am so happy at the same time because it is all worth it. You are free now. You never will have to choose between your faith and your family. You are free to be anything you want to be in life. Pursue any education and career. Love whoever you want. Have friends, play sports, be happy. (Just don’t be a Yankees fan, ok?) You never have to live up to any expectations from me, because I have none. God loves you just as you are, as do I.

If I never accomplish anything else in my life, you are enough for me.

With all my heart,
